Manakiki Project

さんかくすと文がえます

Manakiki Project provides online learning support to children with disabilities and children who have difficulty learning due to their circumstances. The children’s teachers are university and graduate students who aim to become teachers. They create teaching materials that match the interests of each child and use them to teach, so that children can achieve their dreams for the future.

Our Story

Background

COVID-19, which has spread significantly since late 2019, has had a major impact on the world.
COVID-19 has not only affected people’s health and financial situation, but it has also had a serious impact on children’s learning. The sudden closure of schools caused a great deal of confusion and shock because all schools, households, and children were impacted by the decision.

COVID-19 also affected university students; they lost the opportunity to learn on-site and the part-time jobs that enabled them to keep studying.

People were also restricted in their activities, in particular people with disabilities who who did not have the chance to interact with people and share their life, work, and the things they made with their neighbors.
Therefore, people at various levels of society, such as children with/without disabilities, students in universities, and other people in the community, faced confusion and lost their will and reason for learning. This could be called the “Learning Crisis”.

How the Manakiki Foster Plan was created, to counter the “Learning Crisis”

In 2022, we began providing online learning support through the Manakiki Foster Plan for children with disabilities.
Using online meeting platforms, such as zoom, this project has provided online tutoring and support for children with disabilities.
The university students participating in this project function as tutors for the children. This has allowed them the opportunity to gain teaching experience during the pandemic.
Finally, the project is funded by selling coffee and nuts made by people with disabilities. The university students are financially compensated for the tutoring they provide from the profits earned through the sale of coffee and nuts. This means workers with disabilities support our tutoring program.

Manakiki Blend(Original Coffee)

Manakiki Blend is for people with disabilities and children who have difficulty attending school because of the COVID-19, feel lonely in online classes, and face a “learning crisis.”
Let’s learn together while drinking the Manakiki Blend. The profits will be returned to the salaries for people with disabilities and used as the project expenses (ex, part-time job salary, and teaching material creation expenses.)
